Swiss firm orders unique Heidelberg Speedmaster

Swiss folding carton specialist rlc | packaging has ordered a unique Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 106, which made its debut at Drupa 2012.
The press is in an eight color configuration with three chambered doctor blade coating units and DryStar dryer technology between each pair of coating units and in the triple extended delivery. The rlc | packaging group production site in Spreitenbach near Zurich will commission the press in the fourth quarter of 2012.
The rlc | packaging group is a highly specialized supplier of innovative folding cartons for delicate, fast-moving consumer goods sold throughout Europe. The group is manufacturer of packaging for the beauty, pharmaceutical, confectionery and food industry.
Heidelberg said the configuration of this press is the first of its kind worldwide. With a peak performance speed of 18,000sph, the press will mostly manufacture confectionery packaging at Spreitenbach. The site will be the first one to be equipped with several configurations of the new Speedmaster XL 106 series, underlining the rlc | packaging group's strategic cooperation with Heidelberg. The package printer operates facilities in Hanover, Berlin and Aachen in Germany, as well as Spreitenbach and Köniz, Switzerland, and in Poznan, Poland
Ulrich Nydegger, managing director of the rlc | packaging group and responsible for the Swiss production sites in Spreitenbach and Köniz, said: ‘One decisive reason for the investment is Heidelberg's comprehensive solution concept for packaging printing, which also encompasses die cutters and folding carton gluing machines.
Rlc | packaging group company spokesman Hans-Christian Bestehorn added: ‘The innovative concept of the press as well as Heidelberg's services tailored to the particular needs of a packaging printer were just as crucial as the machine's productivity and quality. What's more, we already have very positively experienced Heidelberg equipment at our sites in Aachen and Berlin.
‘The new press stands out due to its high energy efficiency and eco-friendly use of resources and thus complements our sustainability strategy in an excellent way.’
Today's print media service providers are faced with a dynamic and challenging market. Companies that want to achieve success in an environment of this kind need to optimize their business models by seizing on market trends in the industry and using them to their advantage.
