TLMI honors top label management

Four converter member companies of the Tag & Label Manufacturers Institute were awarded the prestigious TLMI ‘Best Managed Company’ award at the institute's recent 2004 converter meeting, held in Puerto Rico.
The ‘Best Managed Company’ award is given annually and awards are given in four categories, based on annual sales volume. Those honored included Driscoll Label, Fairfield, NJ; Consolidated Label, Longwood, FL; Graphic Solutions, Burr Ridge, IL; and Belmark, DePere, WI.
Driscoll Label was honored in the ‘small’ company category (with sales of less than $6 million).
‘Over the past 10 years, we’ve won over 40 national and international printing awards, but this award tops them all,” said president Bob Biava. ‘I'd like to thank all my partners in progress who made his award possible, including my 18 co-workers, my customers and suppliers, and most importantly, my wife, Patti. Lastly, I'd like to thank TLMI for the friendships we’ve made, the insights we’ve gained, and this opportunity to be recognized.’
Consolidated Label won for the second consecutive year in the "mid-range" company category ($6 million to $15 million in annual sales).
’The fact that we’ve won this award two years in a row shows the consistency of our management team and employees that we’ve been able to develop in our 20-year history,” said Joel Carmany, President of Consolidated Label. “We have seen many changes in the market and industry over the years and have made strong efforts to adapt our company accordingly. Our key has been to deliver high-quality product quickly to our customers on a consistent basis. The employees of Consolidated Label are very proud to win the Singer award. They recognize this as a culmination of their efforts to satisfy customers while being part of a successful organization. We thank TLMI for making this award possible as well as their ongoing contributions to the label industry.’
Graphic Solutions was honored in the ‘medium-sized’ company category, with $15 million to $35 million in annual sales. The company has won the award in 1992, 2002, and 2003.
‘Everyone at our company is really excited about winning this award for a fourth time,’ said Suzanne Zaccone, President of Graphic Solutions. ‘Although our company has continued to expand in such areas as electroluminescence, printed batteries and RFID antennas, pressure-sensitive labels remain a large part of our business and at the heart of our winning a third consecutive Eugene Singer Award. This would not have been possible without our dedicated employees, our loyal customers, a committed supplier base, and the knowledge and support we have gained through our membership in TLMI. For that, my brother and partner, Bob Zaccone, and I are extremely grateful.’
Belmark was honored in the ‘large’ company category, with annual sales of more than $35 million. Belmark has won the award for four consecutive years, from 1997 to 2000, and also in 2002.
‘I treasure the relationships I have had over the years with all the great people who make up the TLMI membership and staff,’ said Bruce Bell. ‘So, when we are recognized among our peers for doing a good job, it is especially significant and I consider the Eugene Singer Award to be the ultimate honor. I can only thank our employees and customers for making this happen.’
These awards recognize excellence in business management, measured by defined business ratios calculated through the TLMI Management Ratio Study. Competing for the award encourages TLMI members to incorporate new and innovative methods of improving productivity and efficiency in order to increase financial return to the company.
