Wavetrend and Ardan Control deploy largest healthcare RFID installation in Israel

Wavetrend Technologies Ltd, a deployer of track and trace solutions, is set to embark on an active RFID project for the newly built Ashdod Medical Center in Southern Israel, which when completed will represent the largest active RFID installation in the Middle East. The project is a product of a partnership between Wavetrend and Ardan Control Tech Ltd, one of the leading system integrators in Israel.
The healthcare industry today faces increasing financial pressures, an ongoing need for improved use of staff time, higher standards for patient and staff safety, and focus on improved patient outcomes. Increasingly, hospitals and medical centers are finding that adopting active RFID can provide substantial benefits in improving operating efficiencies and deliver a significant return on investment (ROI).
In the interest of achieving the best possible monitoring of equipment, personnel and high-risk patients, Ashdod Medical Center required full RFID coverage for all six operational floors of its facility. To meet this objective, Ardan will install a vast infrastructure of active RFID supplied by Wavetrend. Readers will be strategically positioned throughout the hospital, and an extensive array of tags designed to track multiple assets will be deployed. The real-time tracking capabilities that the system offers will allow the hospital to locate critical equipment and personnel in the event of an emergency, and also monitor the whereabouts of high-risk patients in real time so that medical staff can react to an alert immediately.
Ardan Control Tech will deploy asset and personnel tracking software to support the system, including middleware and a multi-layer user interfaces. The software has an open architecture design to foster better integration with other hospital software applications. Medical staff can access needed information from any computer within the facility based on predetermined authorization levels.
‘A fast paced, high-stakes setting like the Ashdod Medical Center is a perfect example the positive impact active RFID can have in providing meaningful, real-time information that results in more effective split-second decision making,’ said Saleem Miyan, CEO of Wavetrend. ‘It is gratifying to know that our products are helping to ensure that the citizens of Ashdod receive the highest quality healthcare.’
‘As a systems integrator, we look for partners who provide best-in-class technology and equipment. Given their industry-leading experience and expertise, Wavetrend was the clear choice to provide the active RFID infrastructure required for this installation,’ said Moshe Ranz CEO, of Ardan Control Tech.
The extensive active RFID system deployed will provide the real-time control that is vital to the hospital’s goal of ensuring that skilled medical personnel and equipment can be located when they are needed most, so that their patients always receive the utmost in care. The measures being taken by Ashdod Medical Center are designed to greatly reduce emergency response times and ultimately save lives.
