Henkel launches cold seal coating for paper packaging
Loctite Liofol CS 7106 RE is the first cold seal coating designed specifically for barrier-coated paper.
Henkel has launched Loctite Liofol CS 7106 RE, the first cold seal coating in its portfolio formulated specifically for barrier-coated paper packaging, targeting the growing shift away from plastic packaging driven by regulatory pressure and consumer demand.
The product creates a secure seal without heat exposure, making it suitable for heat-sensitive applications in the snack, ice cream and confectionery segments, as well as collection cards and secondary packaging that previously required plastic structures. Its recycling compatibility with mechanical paper recycling has been verified by an accredited certification institute, positioning it as a tool for brand owners and manufacturers seeking to meet EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) requirements.
Loctite Liofol CS 7106 RE is press-ready, performs across a wide range of paper grammages and is compatible with existing high-speed production lines. Henkel says it tolerates typical migrants from paper substrates, preventing performance fluctuations, and offers strong adhesion properties and ageing stability. The product forms part of Henkel's RE range, a family of adhesives and coatings developed for recycling-compatible packaging design.
'With Loctite Liofol CS 7106 RE, Henkel delivers attested cold seal performance on barrier-coated paper and packaging that meets the requirements for a circular economy and the high demands for product safety and process stability,' said Cagri Turkmen, market strategy manager flexible packaging at Henkel.
According to a GlobalData industry report cited by Henkel, more than 70 percent of global consumers consider recyclable packaging essential or desirable.
