Herma unveils two new transparent PP films

The basis for the two new self-adhesive materials is a permanent multi-layer adhesive.

Herma has unveiled two new label self-adhesive materials. Both are transparent PP films with economical clear-on-clear properties and certified wash-off qualities, available in the net width range with short delivery times.

The basis for the two new self-adhesive materials is the permanent multi-layer 72Hpw adhesive. It provides both high transparency for standard applications and certified wash-off properties.

'The 72Hpw adhesive we have developed has once again proven to be a perfect all-rounder for film applications. Its excellent permanent adhesive properties are impressive even in humid conditions, such as those sometimes encountered in beverage filling,' said Hendrik Kehl, product manager at Herma. 'Its special formulation ensures both wash-off properties and transparency. This adhesive is further proof of how multi-layer technology can be used to combine different and sometimes contradictory properties in a practical way.'

For the Clear-on- Clear application, this adhesive is combined with Herma PP transparent super tc film (type 886) and two different PET release liners. The latter are available in thicknesses of 30µm and 23µm. The new self-adhesive materials thus cover virtually all processing requirements and offer high-speed dispensing options.

In label production itself, good print quality can be achieved with all conventional printing processes. Both new self-adhesive materials are ideally suited for labeling cosmetic products, household cleaners and more, as well as for applications where weather and chemical resistance are required.

It is also compatible with rigid HDPE recycling streams. The 72Hpw pressure-sensitive adhesive has already been certified as recyclable by the Cyclos-HTP Institute in various material combinations, including with Herma PP transparent super tc film. It therefore meets the recycling requirements for PET in an 80 deg C wash cycle and for HDPE in a 40 deg C wash cycle. In addition, the PP films in combination with 72Hpw have been classified by RecyClass as fully compatible with the rigid HDPE recycling stream. The adhesive is also suitable for applications on glass and PP surfaces.

Both new self-adhesive materials are produced in Plant 2 at Herma headquarters, which was built specifically for films. Highly automated production ensures high-precision coating processes, optimal conditions for efficient, smooth further processing of the self-adhesive materials into labels.
