Alliance develops thin film machine and materials solution for beverage industry

In a move to increase efficiency and drive down costs for high volume multi-national manufacturers, Harland Machine Systems and Merroc have joined forces on a special project to provide a total PS labeling solution for the beverage industry. The joint venture brings together Harland's 30 years of expertise in the design and build of labeling systems and Merroc's extensive experience in the production of thin film labels.
Jim Potter, managing director of Harland Machine Systems, explains: ‘We are very excited about our joint working initiative with Merroc. With our own 'Enterprise' system and 'Pulsar' technology combined with the converting technology and the introduction of thin films from Merroc, we believe together we can offer the beverage industry, in particular, some significant new opportunities.’
By producing bespoke units and labels that are totally compatible, the project hopes to break new ground in the application of thin and ultra-thin films for the
beverage sector, where the 'no look' label dominates.
Bill Ruddy, managing director of Merroc said: ‘Merroc has invested heavily in state of the art technology to convert very thin film constructions to work with label application speeds up to 60,000 bph that will offer significant cost reduction benefits. Together with HMS we will work with
our material partners to innovate new material substrates to bring future cost and application benefits to compete with other labeling systems.’
Glasgow, Scotland-based Merroc was formerly part of the Avery Dennison Corporation and has been a privately owned company since 2001.
