GEW delivers UV curing system for nanotechnology coatings

GEW has supplied an IsoCure nitrogen-inerted UV curing system to Suncoat GmbH of Zittau (Saxony), Germany. The installation of this specially tailored solution for coatings coincides with the company’s tenth anniversary of producing inert gas UV curing systems.
Suncoat was founded in 2003 and specializes in developing and producing refined film surfaces. The company’s current focus is in the development of nanotechnology to create improved coatings using smaller pigment particles. The smaller particles impart superior product qualities such as durability, gloss, scratch resistance and electrical conductivity. Suncoat’s aim is to develop a new technology for coatings and UV curing plays a key role in meeting this objective.
Of particular benefit to Suncoat is the 32 kW electronic power supply at the heart of the UV system. This offers a reduction in power consumption of up to 30 percent in comparison with the transformer driven power supplies typically used with this type of lamp head, and also takes up significantly less floor space. The electronic system also increases UV output and contributes in reducing the impact of carbon emissions on the environment. UV lamp output adjusts seamlessly in relation to web speed and the operator is able to monitor UV output via a touch screen interface.
IsoCure is a new design from GEW aimed at wide format UV curing of inks, coatings and adhesives. The development means that the company can diversify from its key market in labels to grow other sectors including converting, sheet-fed, metal decorating and newsprint as well as specialized industrial applications. ‘The company is known for its design expertise and the robustness of its UV lamp heads and controls,’ explained Wolfgang Ziebell of GEW. ‘We take a flexible approach to our customers and their problems and work closely with them to ensure each system perfectly matches their needs. We consider this approach to be one of our strengths.’
