SDI, a manufacturer of contamination control equipment and consumables, has opened a distribution center for Western Europe, located in Oosterhout, Netherlands. The company cites growing demand for its products outside the Americas as the reason for the development.

SDI operates in markets as diverse as electronics, including PCB, SMT and PV, plus converting and printing sectors such as screen process, flexography, letterpress and inkjet.

Based in the US and with a strong presence in Asia, Europe is said by the company to be the ‘obvious next choice for expansion’. This decision was made in 2006 with the opening of the first SDI center on the continent, located in Poznan, Poland.

Jon Korbonski, president of SDI, commented: ‘We always knew that expansion would eventually be necessary, with the strong European currencies making US products so attractive. However, even we were surprised that a second facility was needed so soon.’

Craig Brawley, responsible for sales in Europe, added: ‘SDI has always been extremely competitive. With this new facility we will be able to give our distribution network in Western Europe even better service. This is the first step in our continued investment into the European market. In 2010 we will begin a program to offer technical support for our increasing number of machines installed in Europe from our new Netherlands base.’
