FINAT, the association for the self-adhesive label industry, has outlined its events agenda for 2014, with a focus on ‘knowledge, information, best practice and inspiration across the labeling community’

It will host a Technical Seminar on March 5-7 in Barcelona, Spain under the theme ‘Redesigning the label’. This event will include reviewing the current technology and market for self-adhesive labels, as well as the latest trends regarding raw materials, label construction, printing, converting and applications for self-adhesive labels. Attendees will be updated on a broad range of issues, such as legislation, materials science, converting technology and end-use applications for labels.

Simultaneous translated into French, German and Spanish, the Technical Seminar is aimed at all levels of the technical community, from research and development to production to technical directors and executives.

March 7 is also the deadline for the FINAT Label Competition.

In April, FINAT will release the first edition of its half-yearly Industry Trends report.

The FINAT Congress on June 5-7 in Monaco will have the theme ‘The Battle for Shelf Appeal – Winning Strategies for the Label Industry’, and is inspired by supermarket visits by members from FINAT in their search for new ideas and innovative product decoration concepts

This informal research found that the battle for success at ‘the moment of truth’ also translates into a battle for the most attractive yet cost effective product decoration solution.

The congress program will open with a keynote presentation by international brand consultants Cartils and will feature two expert panel discussions, one bringing together representatives from leading application technology providers, and the second one featuring leading end users in different market segments like food, retail, cosmetics and beverages. On the second day, delegates will be introduced to newly emerging technologies relevant to the future of labeling, such as printed electronics.

In support of its 2014 congress, FINAT has launched a design competition for its annual congress logo aimed at graphic arts students in France. The winner(s) will be honoured during the FINAT Congress.

A revised and embellished edition of the FINAT Technical Handbook, the ninth edition of the test method manual, is scheduled to be published in the first quarter of 2014. In addition to more accurate full-color pictures and schematics, the handbook will contain links to videos showing how the relevant test method is performed.

FINAT is also to soon launch a new award for recycling.
