Hyden Packaging has sold three slitter rewinders since the machine’s launch at Labelexpo India 2014

Hyden Packaging, a manufacturer of dry offset presses for the decoration of disposable plastics containers since 1986, diversified into the label industry in 2014 with its U 350 HS narrow web slitter rewinder, and has sold three since the machine’s launch at Labelexpo India 2014.

Labelexpo India 2014 took place at the end of October last year, and since then Hyden Packaging has installed two U 350 HS units, at Coats & Pack in Mumbai and Spec Labels in Kolkata, with a third to be installed with a customer in Ahmedabad in the coming weeks.

P J Jayakar, managing director at Hyden Packaging, said: ‘We take the customer’s feedback and our machines evolve as per their requirements. Features such as 100 percent inspection systems and inkjet heads, amongst other options, are available to our customers.'

Jayakar added that he feels it is time for the company to expand its product range to cater to diverse segments of the market and increase volumes, and Hyden Packaging is now working on manufacturing intermittent die-cutting and UV varnishing machines, which it plans to launch later this year.

Sudhir Samant, an industry veteran and consultant who is leading sales and marketing at Hyden Packaging, said: ‘We are catering to companies that want a high quality product. We are about 40 percent more reasonably priced than European machines mainly because of lower overheads and conservative margins.’

‘People have a mindset that Indian companies cannot manufacture high quality machines, however that trend is changing,’ Jayakar added. ‘The quality of machines made in India is fast catching up with international standards. When a manufacturer adheres to strict quality standard a machine performs well and matches the user’s expectation.’
