Stuart Robinson, production manager at Douglas Storrie Labels, is striving the achieve the Commonwealth Games marathon qualifying time

2013 has seen Robinson take part in a number of races, including the Seville marathon, where he ran 26 miles in 2h22m09s, and finished 13th out of 7,500 competitors.

Other events he has entered include the Salford 10k, the Blackpool Half Marathon, the Blackpool Interclub, the Bupa Manchester 10k, the BMC Track 5,000m, the Highgate Harriers Night of the PBs 10,000m, the Welsh Castles Relay mountain stage and the Sotos 10k.

The Commonwealth Games, which is held every four years, is an international, multi-sporting event involving athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations, and will be hosted by Glasgow, Scotland in 2014, before heading to Australia in 2018.

Robinson said: ‘I have been picked to represent England in the Toronto Waterfront Marathon in October, so the next 14 weeks training will be geared up to that.

‘To try and run the Commonwealth Games time is a big ask and I will only get two chances; Toronto and one in spring 2014. It is possible to gain the qualifying time if things go right and I stay injury free but a lot of hard work is needed.

‘I have ticked my boxes off this year, and the next target in Toronto is to run sub 2h20m, then, hopefully, try and get it down to the 2h17m mark in April next year.

‘It’s a big ask but achievable, and I will give 110 percent to achieve it.’

UK press manufacturer Edale is supporting Robinson's effort to achieve the Commonwealth Games marathon qualifying time by covering his training expenses.
