Avery Dennison expands production capabilities In Malaysia

Avery Dennison Malaysia has announced a significant expansion of manufacturing capabilities at its pressure-sensitive materials business in Bangi, 35km from Kuala Lumpur. The company unveiled a new, high-speed coater, which will provide one of the fastest productions in the pressure-sensitive materials industry in ASEAN.
‘Expanding our manufacturing presence at our plant demonstrates our strong commitment to the Malaysian and other ASEAN markets,’ said Palit Limpiti, general manager of Avery Dennison for ASEAN. ’We are delighted that demand for our pressure-sensitive materials in this region has grown to the extent that we need to expand our existing facility.’
The new advanced high-speed wide web coater will be able to produce high quality label material products at a speed that is two-fold faster than the company’s existing equipment in Malaysia, resulting in increased manufacturing efficiency. The additional investment at the Bangi plant has increased the size of the facility by nearly 3000 square meter (sqm) to about 8000 square meter.
Avery Dennison’s Fasson Roll Materials organization in ASEAN is a leading supplier of pressure-sensitive paper and film products in the country, which are sold in roll form to label printers, converters and business forms producers.
‘Since Avery Dennison’s initial foray into ASEAN market with an operation in Singapore in 1985, we have expanded to other regions and grown at around six-fold over the last seven years,’ stated Jimmy Chou, business director of Avery Dennison for ASEAN.
The expansion plans are being driven by increasing market demand for Fasson- brand pressure-sensitive products, which serve broad consumer labeling needs in many industries, including health and beauty, pharmaceutical, beverage, security, product identification and variable information processing. Additional applications include clear film labels for plastic and glass containers, as well as specialized business forms and data processing labels.
Chou said Avery Dennison is always finding new ways to deliver what customers need: such as the introduction of world’s first self-adhesive Converting College back in the year 2000. ‘The Converting College offers technical training to label printers and converters throughout the Asia Pacific region. Offered free of charge, training sessions at the Converting College enable Avery Dennison to share skills and knowledge in self-adhesive label printing and converting with participants in order to help them improve their technical capabilities and grow their businesses. More than 700 label printers from across Asia have completed training at the facility in the six years since it opened.’
