Horses to benefit from move to flexible pouches

- Mix to entice horses to drink water was previously available in 3.5lbs bucket, now in simiar size pouch

 

- Pouches to maintain price and reduce material use in line with EPA goals for source reduction

 

Equatic Solutions has begun offering its Horse Quencher product in a printed 3.5lbs pouch as it responds to customer demand for more environmentally friendly packaging.

 

Horse Quencher is an all-natural mix of grains and flavorings that entices horses to drink water, and was previously available in a 3.5lbs bucket.

 

Illinois-based Eagle Flexible Packaging is supplying Equatic Solutions with the flexible pouch alternative to buckets.

 

Eagle said the empty pouches ship flat and weigh less than an ounce, versus the former buckets that took up a lot of space and weighed over 3oz each.

 

It added that it is active in the sustainability space and works with a wide variety of consumer product companies that are looking for sustainability alternatives and packaging options, including renewable and compostable materials.

 

Horse Quencher is described by Eagle Flexible as an “exciting project as it accomplishes the US Environmental Protection Agency’s most preferred method of solid waste management, which is source reduction”.

 

Nancy Issenman, chief executive officer of Equatic Solutions, said the pouches will also help the company maintain the price of Horse Quencher.

 

She said: ‘The materials used in packaging are greatly reduced, as are the required transport resources before and after they’re filled.

 

‘We have not raised our prices since 2007, and the change in packaging will allow us to continue to hold our prices steady in the face of significant cost increases.’
