Chesapeake aims to reduce environmental impact

Chesapeake’s pharmaceutical cartons factory in Leicester is to reduce its chemistry use and enable alcohol-free production with the installation of a Technotrans beta c.220 circulation system, glycol chiller and beta.f filtration system.

Maintenance and print production manager at the Leicester plant, Allan Footitt, says that the installation will help the plant to run its presses alcohol-free. He commented that ‘A decent filtration system is necessary as it is important to keep the fount solution clean and clear of debris.’

‘The filtration system reduces the amount of dampening solution used’ he added ‘and whereas we previously used to have to empty out the tank, flush it through and refill it once a week we can now do that about every two months.’

This latest investment follows the successful installation of a Komori LS 640 press earlier in 2010.

In addition to the Leicester investment, Chesapeake’s food packaging site in Newcastle has installed a glycol chiller on its Speedmaster XL 105-8+LYYL that will help improve consistency.

Engineering manager at the Newcastle site, Andrew Forrester said: ‘Having consistent temperatures throughout a production run, and from run to run, means consistently good print results.’
