Chesapeake chooses Heidelberg for Stuttgart plant

Chesapeake Deutschland Branded Packaging has chosen a Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 105-LYY-P-9+LYYL for its Stuttgart plant. Due to be installed in May 2011, the new press, which has three coating units and nine offset printing units, will be used for applying special surface finishes to the company’s range of folding cartons for the confectionery and cosmetics sectors.
According to a Chesapeake spokesman, it was press' ability to print on the reverse side of high quality cartons that clinched the deal. Its perfecting technology allows for sheets to be printed on both sides in a single pass, and the fully automatic switchover from straight printing to perfecting and smooth sheet travel gives excellent register. If the perfecting device is not used, the press can produce additional effects by applying acrylic gold or silver to the front side, and subsequently overprinting.
Another special feature on the Chesapeake press is its integrated Foil-Star cold foil unit that applies metallic finishes. Cold foil makes it possible to highlight images, texts and logos realistically and effectively. Text areas and graphics can have metallic tones, while images of metallic objects can be reproduced convincingly. A protective coating layer is applied after printing.
