Chesapeake installs Speedmaster XL 105

Leading Belgian pharmaceutical and healthcare package printer, Chesapeake Bornem, has boosted profits from the short make-ready times and speed of its new Speedmaster XL 105-4-P+L.

The new four-color press has a coating unit that is used as a dedicated inline die-cutter, making it ideal for the full range of leaflets and booklets required by the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.  According to Anthony Vandamme, print manager at Bornem: ‘80 percent of the pharmaceutical work we handle is one back one, 15 percent is two back two, and a very small percentage is full process color.’

The new Speedmaster will run alongside the company’s extensive range of letterpress, narrow web and digital printing machines.  With the average litho order now about 10,000 units, having a fast make-ready as well as a high running speed really matters.

The CutStar reel to sheet device fitted is a cost and waste saver.  Paper on reels is cheaper to buy and can be cut to the exact length of each job.  It is also easier to transport paper in reels, especially the thin papers used at Bornem.

Chesapeake also opted for Prinect Axis Control to measure and store Pantone colors.  This allows the consistent brand reproduction demanded by customers, and improves user recognition.

‘Everything has run to schedule and been well planned.  We look forward to showcasing this technology as part of Chesapeake’s investment program, which will exceed Euro 30 million this year,’ added Vandamme.
