Domino adds white to N-series digital press
Domino unveiled the latest generation of its N-series digital press, for the first time with a highly opaque in-line white ink. This is believed to be the first time white ink has been available on the Kyocera 600dpi inkjet head.
To achieve the required opacity, there are two white inkjet heads inside the machine, and the heads have been modified with a recirculation system to give more reliable jetting.
Domino has also left two additional inkjet stations next to the CMYK heads, and orange and violet UV inks will be available in Q1 2014. Maximum speed with White + CMYK is 50m/min.
Another significant change in the new press is a higher capacity, servo-controlled one meter unwind, making the press compatible with flexo jumbo roll sizes and giving 6,000m of printing before the next roll change.
The press was shown with an AB Graphics Digicon finishing line and an integrated AVT quality inspection system. ‘Now we have an inline white and can print at speeds up to 75 meters a minute CMYK, I do not see any reason not go to inline with the finishing unit,’ said Philip Easton, director of Domino’s Digital Printing Business unit. ‘With a turret rewind and inspection camera and good color management the label goes from file to shipping box in a one pass, which is far more efficient.’
The press on the stand has been sold to French converter QRT.
