Landa to update S10 press ahead of market entry

Landa has added in-line coating to its S10 model and overhauled the layout of the press, as it prepares to bring the first machines to market.

Launched at Drupa 2012 to much acclaim, the series of Landa Nanographic Printing presses captured the eye of many attendees to the show with its touchscreen interface that covered large areas of the side of the press. The touchscreen also slid upwards to reveal the workings of the press.

In the 18 months since Drupa, Landa has conducted a series of customer visits around the world to gather feedback on the press, including views about the layout of the press in relation to the operator.

As a result of this feedback, Landa has introduced a new “cockpit” area as an integrated production management center located at the delivery end of the press. This is intended to make it easier for operators to monitor and control the press. The touchscreen interface is included in this area, featuring press controls, live video feeds from inside the press and press performance indicators, as is a lit inspection table and an area for press operators to display personal items.

The change to the configuration of the press has extended its footprint from 14m to 17m, and also improved accessibility in relation to press maintenance.

Landa founder, chairman and chief executive officer Benny Landa said: ‘Other offset and digital press manufacturers have perhaps not given enough thought to the operator when designing presses. Ours is now a “dream machine” for operators.’

In addition to the new press configuration, Landa has added in-line coating functionality to the S10 folding carton variant. This is in direct response to the demands of the folding carton market, and will permit flood and selective coating. The coating unit supports flexo rollers and plates as well as a variety of UV and aqueous coatings.

Other enhancements made to the Landa series of digital presses include new ink ejectors with a resolution of 1,200dpi, and an automatic paper handling system that supports both paper and plastic substrates.

Landa said: ‘We have been working closely with our customers to ensure that our Nanographic Printing presses will provide the performance, print quality and feature set for high-speed production.

‘The new Landa operator cockpit will set a new standard for operating any production press, whether digital or offset.’

The first Landa Nanographic Printing presses are due to ship to beta test sites in the fourth quarter of 2014, and will be the folding carton variant of its S10 model, the S10FC. Shipments of the S10C for commercial and publishing printing will follow thereafter.
