Registration is still open for the digital printing master class taking place at Labelexpo Americas on 13 September 2012, but places are filling quickly, according to the event's organizers.

The three and a half hour master class will provide an information and technology guide for label converters, designers, industry suppliers and brand owners looking to invest in or use digital label and package printing.

Opening and closing the session, Mike Fairley, founder of Labels & Labeling and director of strategic development for the Labelexpo Global Series, will look at market trends and how to manage digital printing in the converting plant environment, as well as business practices.

Christian Menegon from HP Indigo, Sharon Rothschild from Landa Digital Printing, Sean Skelly of EFI Jetrion and Xeikon’s Filip Weymans will compare digital printing technologies including press configurations and processes such as dry toner and nano inks.

The importance of pre-press and workflow automation will be explored by LabelTraxx’s Ken Meidhardt, touching upon streamlining the administration process as well as choosing between digital and conventional. Jan De Roeck from Esko will give an overview of pre-press systems and strategies for profitable digital printing including color management and supply chain integration.

David Collins from Avery Dennison will highlight substrate selection and printing quality and consider surface treatments and coatings as well as matching the process to the substrate for labels, cartons and flexible packaging. Digital print finishing for labels and cartons including inline or offline and laser die-cutting will be addressed by Evan Schiebout from Delta Industrial who is joined by Xeikon’s Filip Weymans and EFI Jetrion’s Sean Skelly.

Labelexpo managing director Roger Pellow commented: ‘In the ever changing world of labels where run lengths have decreased, label variations have increased and the demand for label personalization grows, the challenge for conventional press users is to increase commercial viability by reducing setup and changeover times while not compromising on durability or print quality. Digital printing technology for labels is one of the biggest growth opportunities for their business; especially if it is used as a sales and marketing tool and as innovation is key to business growth, the argument for going digital is compelling.

‘The master class has been designed to reflect the growing need for converters to invest in digital technologies to deliver the flexibility, job batching, changeover, marketing, variation and personalization options brand owners require. A digital capability will become an important piece of capital within a converter’s overall business portfolio and by leveraging the benefits of a using a multi-platform printing model it will substantially help converters achieve longer term success.’

Entry to the master class costs USD 700 and delegates will receive a free copy of 'Digital label printing - a 'how to' guide for the label converter' (worth USD 120) as their course notes and reference resource. Register online by visiting www.labelexpo-americas.com.
