Südpack adds digital printing with HP Indigo 20000 investment

Südpack Verpackungen has invested in an HP Indigo 20000 to add digital to its printing capabilities and offer customers personalized packaging in fast turnaround times.

Südpack can now print packaging with custom messages and images using its HP Indigo 20000 digital press

Südpack, which operates 35 sales offices and production sites in Germany, France, Poland and Switzerland, specializes in producing hard/soft films and plastic bags. Films are printed using flexo, gravure, and now digital. Gravure printing is used for large, high quality, true color print runs with up to 12 colors, two-sided and in combination with in-line lamination, while high quality flexo is done in up to 10 colors.

The expanded portfolio offers a number of key benefits, and Südpack said its customers can take advantage of its combined expertise in all three printing processes. A variety of film surfaces can be printed with texts, images or barcodes on the HP Indigo 20000 digital press, up to an image size of 736x1100mm. This can be done in small batch sizes and short print runs, meaning customers can add special advertising or promotions to their standard packaging or mark limited edition products with a printed image.

‘By continuously building our technological expertise, we can offer customers a growing range of solutions designed to make their products stand out at the point of sale,’ said Südpack managing partner Johannes Remmele.

The company described customized packaging as having been a megatrend in the packaging market for a long time. ‘We offer our customers new options for presenting their products, from personal messages on sealing film for breakfast products to special designs for seasonal products,’ said Remmele. ‘Practically any idea can now be implemented. The preparations required for digital printing are minimal. Setting up and aligning the print image takes minimal time and effort. This efficiency, combined with our lean production processes, allows us to offer our customers affordable smaller batches. This gives them the freedom to test different versions of their products, and to increase their long-term market prospects and sales.’

Südpack celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2014.
