Dry peel solves ‘label blindness’ on wine bottles

Hot melt producer Beardow Adams says that ‘dry peel’ can overcome concerns about the increasing amount of information on wine bottle labels causing ‘label blindness’ – as voiced at the recent London International Wine Fair by Jeremy Beadles, chief executive of the Wine and Spirit Trade Association.
‘Dry peel multi-layer labels are three labels in one,’ said Mike Stevenson, Beardow Adams’ UK sales director. ‘Our Prodas 1416 adhesive allows the top label to be removed without disfiguring or removing the base label – the outside of the label can contain enough information to sell the wine and, when home, the consumer has only to lift a corner of the label and peel it back to reveal detailed notes.
‘The adhesive can be printed on both the underside of the top label and on the base label, but the label cannot be re-bonded or peeled off the bottle.’
He claims that unlike other dry peel adhesives, Prodas 1416 can be applied directly to the substrate without a layer of varnish or release agent, resulting in cost savings.
An Australian wine producer is already using dry peel labels bonded with Prodas 1416 for the American market. Apart from labels, Prodas 1416 can also be used in the manufacture document forms.
