Field Lithoprint, a Chesapeake Corporation company and a manufacturer of wet applied labels and commercial print, has installed the latest generation Roland 708 litho printing press at its Glasgow operation. The press is part of a major 2.8 million investment program, which includes the recent relocation to new premises to support the operation’s future growth plans.

‘We have already received a number of exciting, new label and commercial print enquiries including some challenging work to fully utilize the 8-colour press,’ said James Clark, Field Lithoprint’s general manager. ‘The press has the ability to print labels and a range of paper and plastic substrates up to 1mm, which provides our customers with greater choice and flexibility. The commissioning of the new press is on schedule and it is expected to be in full production at the end of March.’

The investment program also includes material handling equipment and the introduction of a new management information system, which will improve order handling and information flow. The design of the new factory has been radically changed to reflect the latest manufacturing flow techniques and the construction of a double door access, as well as the introduction of RH control, ensures optimum paper converting conditions at all times.

‘Our skill base has improved through a recent recruitment drive although further job opportunities are envisaged as the business continues to develop,’ James Clark went on to say. ‘We are planning a factory open day during mid-Summer when we will showcase our abilities to current and prospective customers. We have identified a need for a local leader in quality label production and our investment program demonstrates our commitment to achieving this goal.’
