‘Walk-in’ label factory opens in South Africa

Label Mountain has opened up as a ‘walk-in’ mini-sized label factory serving the Stellenbosch Wine Route in South Africa.

The Label Mountain factory in Stellenbosch also houses a 330mm-wide Rotocon finishing machine

While there are many label printers throughout the Western Cape, along the Stellenbosch Wine Route – representing more than 200 wine and grape producers within the boundaries of the Stellenbosch Wine of Origin classification – there's not a single label printer.

Label Mountain aims to serve this market, along with producers of craft beers and spirits, olive oil and snacks.

Products range from blank or barcoded labels in black and white, to full-color flexo or digitally printed labels. Flexo printing is supplied by an associated company, while digital printing is offered in-house, using a Memjet Trojan One that turns out 1,600dpi full-color labels at the rate of 300mm/sec.

The factory also houses a 330mm-wide Rotocon finishing machine that features offers one printing station (for printing and/or varnishing) complete with UV curing. It also offers cold foiling, semi-rotary die-cutting and lamination capabilities. At the time of visit, the machine was being used to print a black label and then on a second run adding varnish and other finishing steps.
