Martin Automatic reacts to award nomination

Martin Automatic has reacted to its nomination for a Label Industry Award for Continuous Innovation, saying its contribution to the industry ‘has been recognized’.
The converting machine manufacturer joins Flexcon, Mark Andy, MPS, Novelprint, Prati and Tailored Solutions on the shortlist for the award, which will be announced at a ceremony during Labelexpo Europe in September.
VP of sales and marketing Gavin Rittmeyer said: ‘From the mid-1980s we have offered web handling equipment to the label industry that quantifiably improves print quality, reduces downtime, and limits waste. Over the past 25 years we have maintained our commitment to design simplicity even as we moved from pneumatic to full plc-controlled machines. We have hundreds of splicers and automatic transfer rewinders operating in the narrow web label, carton, and flexible packaging industries. Our product range now covers the market comprehensively.’
The principle purpose of automatic roll changing is waste reduction, and in an age when use of all resources is under ever closer scrutiny, Martin says that its equipment and customers now save the label industry over 50,000 metric tons of waste each year. To support the claim, the company has designed computer models that calculate the performance of every press on the market, and can demonstrate the exact benefit of fitting automated handling technology.
Rittmeyer added: ‘We believe we are making a significant contribution to the label industry’s goal of true sustainability, and being shortlisted in this year’s Awards is a clear indication that our contribution has been recognized.’
