GEW energy saving UV formula for Multi Labels

GEW (EC) Ltd has supplied Daventry-based label printer, Multi Labels with a 470mm (18.5”) wide electronically powered UV curing system. Complete with eight vCP lamp heads, the new energy saving e-system will be used to cure UV inks on a new flexo and screen combination press installed at Multi Labels to produce direct food contact, pharmaceutical, screen, tactile and high opacity  printed labels.

Roger Monk, sales director, said: ‘Specifying the GEW UV curing system for our new press was a bullet-proof decision due to our previous experience with their equipment. We want to target new markets and can now run the complete range of both traditional label stock as well as the more heat sensitive substrates demanded for wrap around and shrink sleeves. The new electronically driven system will, we calculate, save us 30 per cent of electrical press operating costs and give us 20 per cent more UV output allowing jobs to be run at up to 150 m/min (500 ft/min). In addition factory space is always at a premium and the compact modular design of the electronic power supplies means they sit neatly and unobtrusively behind the press.’

Multi Labels is now in the demanding process of obtaining BRC Level B for direct food contact packaging. Monk explained: ‘Our commitment to continued investment in the latest facilities, machinery and support equipment equates to survival in a highly competitive market. We are now in the process of erecting a sealed air chamber around our new press allowing us to produce contamination-free products.  Further plant improvements have been added such as insectocuters, strategically located hand basins, resin based floor covering and aseptic staff clothing.’
