Gidue launches M9 press for packaging

Gidue launches M9 press for packaging
- New “heavy-duty” tension control system for carton up to 500gsm used

- First order to ship to Chinese printer

Italian press manufacturer Nuova Gidue has launched M9, its new press suited to carton packaging printing.

The M9 features a completely redesigned offset print group with heavy-duty frames, independent servo-driven inking units and format cassettes, to achieve short set-up times and reduce waste. Each M9 offset print unit is driven by seven servo motors.

A new “heavy-duty” tension control system for carton up to 500gsm has been developed.

The M9 offers a new flexo print unit which can use water-based and UV inks with a high-power drying speed for heavy solids. The M9 flexo unit is placed on the Gidue Universal Platform and can be easily interchanged with screen, cold foil and hot stamping process heads.

A heavy-duty rotogravure unit was also shown on the M9, with an impinged air drying system, which can print with water- and solvent-based inks.

The M9 was shown at a recent three-day Open House event in Tavarnuzze, Tuscany, where live demonstrations of a 12-color carton job were alternated to demonstrations of a 12-color paper job, showing how the M9 can switch from carton to a typical self-adhesive label job.

Attendees were shown the printing process for 450gsm carton packaging and, at the same time, the new heavy carton converting process.

The M9 uses an in-line converting section with a range of functionalities, including: three die-cutting stations for self-adhesive substrates; three heavy-duty die-cutting stations for thick carton for embossing, creasing and die-cutting; one rotary servo-driven sheeting station for heavy carton; one high-pile newly designed high-speed stacker; and one dedicated delivery table for beer labels.

The M9 has been developed with the cosmetic, beverage and confectionery markets in mind, as well as the general packaging industry.

The first M9 will be delivered to a major Chinese converter to print liquor boxes and cigarette packaging, and which is looking for very high printing quality and new exclusive packaging solutions.

Gidue managing director Federico d’Annunzio said: ‘The labels and packaging industries are getting closer; the M9 is designed to create a “bridge” between the two markets.

‘The M9 fulfills most of the commitments of high-end added value packaging, which can be produced “all-in-one-pass” using several printing and converting technologies. This also helped us to develop new short-run technologies in gravure, offset and flexo printing and in the converting sections.

‘We were pleased with the quantity and quality of our visitors. This Open House has been a good opportunity to show Gidue’s deep innovation capabilities and provide a guided tour of our facilities.

‘Feedback from our guests was very positive and it is incredibly satisfying to see how people get impressed by our innovative M9 “big bambina”.’
