Hammer expands into web offset printing with Drent Goebel

Hammer Packaging has recently installed a Drent Goebel variable sleeve web offset press, the first of its kind in North America. The press was custom configured for Hammer and features a 33.5 inch web, electron beam and UV curing system for inks and coatings, inline lamination and continuous unwinds.

Variable sleeve offset printing (VSOP) is a new technology which provides high quality printing positioned to compete graphically with rotogravure. This sleeve technology allows for quick changeovers for variable repeat lengths, which traditional web offset printing does not cost effectively accomplish. In addition, nominal plate costs allows for combination printing of multiple SKU’s and the option to change label graphics more frequently. This provides the customer with greater flexibility and improved supply chain efficiencies. Also, the electron beam curing system provides optimal ink curing and high gloss coating that gives maximum scuff resistance with low odor.

This technology will open new markets to Hammer while elevating capabilities in existing markets. Primary products include roll fed labels, shrink sleeves, roll-on shrink-on (ROSO) labels, 2-ply pouches, cut & stack labels and in-mold labels.
