HP co-sponsors ‘Build a House in a Day’ project

Several members of the HP Indigo users' group Digital Solutions Cooperative (Dscoop) participated in Corazn's ‘Build a House in a Day’ construction project at the close of the 2008 Dscoop Annual Conference. During the outing, co-sponsored by HP and MindFireInc, the group of HP customers, executives and partners traveled to Tecate, Mexico, to build homes for impoverished families under the direction of Corazn leaders.

Corazn was established in 1978 as an all-volunteer relief organization and began building complete homes for families in need in 1995 with the launch of the familia Corazn project. Since that time, more than 30,000 US volunteers have completed more than 950 construction projects. Dscoop conference attendees worked alongside families in the familia Corazn project to build new homes from ground breaking to completion of the house – all in one day.

‘HP was pleased to co-sponsor and participate in Corazn's 'Build a House in a Day' construction project with our valued partner MindFireInc and demonstrate our dedication to global responsibility through this worthy cause,’ said Francis McMahon, director of marketing, US Graphic Arts Organization, HP. ‘The project brought the Dscoop conference attendees together to make a difference in the Tecate community and in the lives of the families that received the new homes.’

HP customers participating in the house-building project expressed gratitude that this type of activity was incorporated into the Dscoop Conference.

‘The Dscoop Conference was amazing, but the highlight of the weekend was the life-changing experience we had working with Corazn,’ said HP Indigo customer John Rogers, president and founder of Dots and Pixels, Woodbridge, Ontario. ‘The family that we were working with could not have been more pleased, and many of us left wishing that we could do even more to help.’

Dscoop hosted the 2008 Annual Conference in San Diego, Calif. from Feb. 21–23 in order to bring the user community and HP representatives together to facilitate knowledge sharing and networking. The three-day conference agenda of workshops and exhibits, including an HP Capture Knowledge center and a multi-vendor solutions showcase, was followed by attendee participation in the Corazn ‘Build a House in a Day’ construction project.
