Fledgling company OPUS 21 Digital has invested in an HP Indigo press s2000 for digital label printing. The firm, based in Newcastle, UK, which was established in November 2005, specializes in labels, short-run mock-ups, samples, shrink-wraps, floor wraps, cartons and packaging. The new HP Indigo press was OPUS 21’s first investment, and was selected especially to give the business the best possible start.

The broad substrate flexibility of the HP Indigo press s2000 is one of its key benefits and was a major factor in OPUS 21’s decision to make the purchase. The press can deliver high quality digital print on self-adhesive papers, plain and embossed papers, synthetic materials, specialist substrates (such as metallized and ‘no label look’ media) and thin substrates of 12 microns and above.

Mark Hunter-Purvis, co-director of OPUS 21 said, ‘Thanks to the versatility of the HP Indigo press s2000, we can complete whole jobs from start to finish. For example, we have the capacity to produce both the shrink sleeves and outer carton wraps for cans of beer on the same press. This is a service our customers really value, and will generate significant business for the company.

’The return on investment we anticipate the press to bring, combined with the customer support from HP, has made the HP Indigo press s2000 a viable option for a start-up company such as ourselves.’

Color accuracy is vitally important to OPUS 21, particularly as its clients include high profile blue-chip companies. The HP Indigo press s2000 can print up to 6 colors, and allows the user to mix their own special spot colors using the HP IndiChrome Ink Mixing System.

Hunter-Purvis continued: ‘With clients such as Proctor and Gamble trusting us with its corporate branding, it is essential that color is accurate and of the highest quality every time. Our special spot color services have been highly in-demand from our packaging customers, and having the ink-mixing service on-site makes the process faster and more efficient.’

The new press is serving a number of creative agencies, who are taking advantage of the cost-effective short-runs the HP Indigo press s2000 can deliver. Agencies can show their clients printed designs, in high-quality proofs, allowing for changes before the final long-run is sent through.

’The real beauty of HP Indigo digital printing is its true likeness to offset, including the ability to print half-tone dots,’ said Hunter-Purvis. ‘This is a significant advantage for our customer base, who are seeking the quality offset delivers, but with the short-run flexibility of digital.’

Opus 21 is building its business around the strong foundation the HP Indigo press s2000 has provided, and is planning to expand further in the future by investing in a higher capacity HP Indigo press, for increased frame sizes.
