Chelmsford, UK based, Imprint Business Systems is working with many customers using its eXpert MIS software to implement JDF links between the different systems and equipment that make up their manufacturing process. Central to each of these projects is the ultimate goal of efficiency gains and cost reduction delivered through automated and real-time data exchange across the entire manufacturing cycle.

‘Imprint fully recognizes the part JDF has to play in delivering the key control, cost and efficiency benefits to be gained from fully integrated workflow’, said Nick Bourne, managing director. ‘We have for sometime now ensured that our software supports the requirements of JDF and the wider use of XML messaging. Imprint is a member of CIP4 and we actively support the development and integration of the JDF/JMF standards within our software. This is an emerging technology and Imprint is working with customers and their suppliers to provide the required functionality.’

‘Currently the penetration of JDF is moving forward,’ continued Bourne. ‘Much of the equipment in current usage pre-dates JDF. This situation will change as JDF evolves and our clients update their plant and systems with JDF compliant models. Today, the uptake of JDF is predominantly in the prepress environment. Imprint’s MIS is at the centre of the business, containing all relevant information about individual jobs as well as the resources and capabilities of the factory. Using Imprint as the JDF messaging hub ensures that data is exchanged across the range of systems and equipment using the appropriate interface.  At Imprint, we see JDF as complementary to the existing capabilities of the Imprint MIS, working alongside our own, well established, integrated systems which already include electronic works instruction, production planning, SFDC and direct machine monitoring. This combination delivers complete coverage in today’s mixed environments.’
