Tharstern launches The Sustainability Show

‘Becoming more sustainable is a topic at the forefront of many people’s minds these days, but a lot of businesses still aren’t sure whether they should venture down this path yet, if the return on investment is going to be there and how on earth they’re going to get started. The Sustainability Show addresses this and helps viewers learn how starting their decarbonization journey could help them reduce costs, bring them more customers and lower their environmental impact too,’ said Amanda Newman, head of marketing at Tharstern. 

In the new chat show style series, Tharstern‘s Ross Edwards talks to Dominic Harris, co-founder of carbon measurement experts CarbonQuota about how printers can reduce emissions, how they are measured and how to follow international standards on carbon footprint. Edwards also talks to Chris Bottomley, MD at Leeds-based direct mail and digital print provider Gecko about its journey to becoming carbon neutral.  

‘At Gecko we are always looking at ways to operate in a more efficient and environmentally friendly way. We achieved the FSC and ISO EMS 14001 accreditations several years ago and wanted to go further with our thinking. We realized that we needed to encompass all our operations in the drive to reduce our carbon footprint. Working with both Tharstern and CarbonQuota has enabled our business to do that,’ commented Bottomley. 

The series also touches on an integration between CarbonQuota and Tharstern’s MIS, which was first developed from an introduction by Gecko’s MD who wanted to add the carbon footprint of each job onto his quotes and orders. The integration has allowed Gecko to measure carbon emissions in real-time and provides both a monetary cost and a climate cost on each quote produced. An option for offsetting the carbon of each job is also included.
