Innovation rewarded at FLEXcon awards
Pressure-sensitive film manufacturer FLEXcon, has announced the winners of its 2003 Awards for Innovation.
The competition celebrates the best and most innovative uses of pressure-sensitive film, recognizing applications that expand the market for these products. FLEXcon insures impartiality by removing the names of the entrants from the applications and also safeguards its customers’ proprietary information.
The judging panel was composed of a group of industry experts, including Jennifer Kwok, managing editor for Cosmetic/Personal Care Packaging Magazine; Bruce Ridge, director of Product and Process Application Training for NAZDAR; Bill Pope, technology manager for the printing applications lab at RIT; and Duane Polkinghorne, president of Propheteer International.
Most Innovative: Smyth/Interactive Packaging Group for their metallized primary label for Coors beer.
Graphic Films: Screenprint/Dow for their digitally-printed lenticular graphic.
Performance Products: Extended Resources for their WatchPAD wheelchair sensor.
Packaging: Chicago Decal for their temperature indicator label for a wine bottle.
Product Identification: Brook & Whittle, Ltd for their Stanley hammer label, featuring an EAS security component.
The contest also features a Cutting Edge category, which allows customers to submit an application with the understanding that each entry will remain confidential. Smyth/Interactive Packaging Group took won this year’s proprietary category.
