DWS invests in Omet X6 for film printing
DWS Printing (DWS) has installed an Omet X6 multi-substrate flexographic press through the supplier’s US distributor Matik. This year DWS, located on Long Island in New York, USA, is celebrating its sesquicentennial anniversary and was eager to invest in a modern printing solution to stay ahead of its time.
The 17in 10-color in-line flexo press is specifically engineered to print and convert unsupported film down to 12 micron. The Omet press has opened up avenues for DWS in the roll-fed beverage label market and shrink sleeve market. It's also used to produce select high volume PS work. The press can hit speeds upwards of 660 ft/min.
The Omet Vision-1 system is the supplier's fully automated registration control feature. Each station prints a small circle of a different size and pulls them into a single, small bulls-eye with little waste or operator intervention. Tom Staib, DWS president, explained, 'It's truly automatic in the sense that it will get into registration for you and it will hold that registration throughout the run.'
DWS was in need of something that could increase output alongside its Heidelberg sheet-fed offset press. Said Staib, ‘We needed something to take us into the future, allowing us to fulfill the growing demand for roll-fed and shrink sleeve solutions. We are proud to announce the arrival of our Omet press, which we fondly refer to as “Beauty”, the perfect counterpart to our offset “Beast”.’
The press has fully removable ink cassettes and a connection between the converter’s MIS system using Transparent Factory.
Staib continued, 'We wanted to give our sales team the confidence that they're supported by the best machinery available.'
