General Label to install Spartanics laser cutting unit

US pressure-sensitive label manufacturer General Label & Printing, Inc. has purchased a Spartanics L-350 laser cutting system that will be used to provide greater flexibility in substrates and cut configurations, along with a reduction in job changeover time.

The L-350 laser cutting system was introduced to the Asian market at the recent China Print show, after generating a large amount of interest at Labelexpo Americas 2012

The L-350 system to be installed at General Label includes a 400W laser, two-sided lamination, UV varnish, rotary sheeting and die-cutting, slitting, back scoring and Spartanics’ change-on-the-fly barcode reading software.

The L-350 will operate off-line alongside General Label’s EFI Jetrion 4830 digital UV inkjet printer.

General Label president Jose Gerado said: ‘{Spartanics} is the leader in the laser cutting field and our company firmly believes that you are what you invest .

‘Additionally, Spartanics has been very supportive as to the design and manufacture of our equipment and we feel a very productive relationship is developing between our companies.’

Mike Bacon, vice-president of sales and marketing at Spartanics, said: ‘We feel that this sale, along with other laser cutting system sales over the past several months, not only validates laser cutting technology in the label market but validates what Spartanics is capable of and has been doing for many years.’
