Masterpack installs Vetaphone corona technology for difficult substrates

Italian converter upgrades Soma CI flexo press to improve PP and PE performance.

One of the leading Italian flexible packaging converters, Masterpack, has installed a Soma CI flexo press fitted with Vetaphone corona technology to improve performance on PP and PE materials at its Veruno plant.

The family-owned company, established in 1988 by Claudio Binda, specializes in high-performance flexible packaging for fresh vegetables, coffee, cookies and pasta markets. The company operates two production sites with around 200 staff and generates annual sales approaching 70 million EUR.

'We have never looked to chase volume here, preferring to innovate and specialize in the production of technically functional packaging at the cutting-edge of what customers demand and our technology can provide,' stated Raul Rizza, chief operations officer at Masterpack.

The 8-color Soma Optima 2 press features 1050mm web width and operates at speeds up to 500m/min with both solvent and water-based inks. The system includes a VE1L-T treater with 1150mm web width, an iHP 300 transformer handling 8kW output from Vetaphone's iPM 200 generator.

Giuseppe Rossi, area sales manager for Italy at Vetaphone, commented: 'As the inventors and pioneers of surface treatment technology we have a vast wealth of knowledge that we can bring to any application and design and manufacture a system that is as special as the uses to which it is put.'
