KBA-Flexotecnica to showcase new ‘hybrid’ CI flexo press at drupa

KBA-Flexotecnica has developed Neo XD LR, a ‘hybrid’ CI flexo press that can run solvent or water-based inks and be configured with UV LED or electron beam (EB) curing.

KBA-Flexotecnica Neo XD LR is available in up to 12 colors

According to KBA-Flexotecnica the Neo XD LR is the first fully hybrid machine featuring the capability of using different flexo printing technologies ranging from solvent or water-based inks, UV LED or EB inks, either as single printing process, or as a multi-process combination, both on the main central drum printing group as well as on in-line downstream units. It can print on a range of substrates, from flexible film to paper and board. This offers flexo printers ‘utmost flexibility and availability’, KBA-Flexotecnica said.

Available with up to 12 color stations, Neo XD LR has a cut-off of 400-1,200mm, a maximum web width of 1,650mm and a maximum printing speed of up to 500m/min. KBA-Flexotecnica said its new press ‘embodies the essence of strategic principles’ which are synonymous with the latest new generation of its Evo XD and Evo XG presses. This includes the application of innovative options aimed at assuring added productivity even with the shortest of print runs, excellent print quality and the eco-friendliness of the converting process. In terms of automation and operation, KBA-Flexotecnica said the Neo XD LR meets various production demands in flexible packaging.

An ultra-stiff printing unit designed to minimize the effects of vibration and plate bounce in the most severe printing conditions ensuring an excellent print quality at maximum speed. A revised press design is said to provide enhanced ergonomics, and make anilox and plate sleeves changes faster and easier even in the case of large web widths and repeat sizes. A newly designed system for extraction of the inter-color dryers and a new access door on the top of the central drum printing group frame, together with the ‘pipeless’ doctor chamber design that removes all ink piping and related adjustment parts from the operating area, makes maintenance easier and faster.

A number of technologies aimed at minimising waste during start-up and production have been integrated into the Neo XD LR, while a revised ESP (energy saving package), including latest generation electric and electronic components, an improved ventilation system with a redesigned air recirculation network and a new washing system, with integrated viscosity control, ensure maximum process performance with the lowest energy consumption.

Further, the latest generation of touchscreen panels serve as a user-machine interface for data and operation, and are an effective response to printers’ increasing demands for easier interaction with the machine’s control system.

Following a growth in sales of almost 20 percent last year, KBA-Flexotecnica is seeking to strengthen its position among the world’s leading manufacturers of high-tech and high-performance flexo presses in the mid to high-end market segments. It aims to do this with the proven productivity, efficiency and reputation of its high-quality presses as well as with the KBA Group’s global sales and service network.

With the Neo XD LR, KBA-Flexotecnica said it demonstrates its commitment to developing cutting-edge, ergonomic and flexible technology for the market as well as meeting the growing pressures for efficient and cost effective production with the lowest environmental impact.

Neo XD LR will feature on the KBA stand in hall 16 at drupa 2016.
