Over 200 delegates from across eastern Europe attended the European Label Summit last week in Prague. Organized by Labelexpo, the European Label Summit aimed to explore the impact of an enlarged European Union on the label industry, and to help eastern European printers and suppliers make the best of all the new opportunities the expansion brings. At the same time, delegates were also given the opportunity to learn about the latest world-wide label technologies and what demands they will face in the international market.

FINAT, The Czech Packaging Association, and The Polish Flexographic Technical Association all supported the event. Speakers at the summit included representatives from the European Commission, from EU entrant countries, label users, trade bodies, suppliers and converters, including: Han Martens, Chief Executive, European Policy Centre; David Harrisson, Pan-European Sales Director, Skanem; and Miroslav Somol, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Czech Republic. The exhibition involved leading global suppliers, printers, and converters, including: Avery Dennison, Coates Screen, Gallus, HP, Mark Andy, Martin Automatic, MPS, Raflatac, Rotoflex and Zeller & Gmelin.

Roger Pellow, Labelexpo Managing Director, said, "I am very pleased with the way the European Label Summit went. We had an excellent selection of speakers, good numbers of delegates, and a tabletop exhibition full of leading global suppliers. The event was a fantastic networking opportunity, and I know many new connections were made and new leads were found. I very much look forward to seeing the old and new colleagues and friends I saw in Prague at Labelexpo Europe 2005 next year in Brussels."
