Greener baking with compostable labels from Bacheldre Watermill

Multi award-winning Welsh artisan organic flour producer Bacheldre Watermill has introduced fully compostable labels to replace its foil-based labels, adding the finishing green touch to its existing biodegradable flour packaging.
Derived from a substance called Natureflex, the new labels consist purely of cellulose – or wood pulp – and are coated with a 100 percent biodegradable adhesive, BioTak, which is suitable for chilled and ambient conditions. The compostable labels are suitable for industrial and home composting. Natureflex and Biotak are produced by UK-based film manufacturer Innovia Films.
Matt Scott, co-owner and founder of Bacheldre Watermill, enthused: ‘With the introduction of these new compostable labels, our packaging is now fully sustainable and is able to achieve biodegradation within just a couple of months.’
Bacheldre Watermill, situated in Wales, produces a range of organic, traditionally ground flours using locally sourced wheat and traditional grinding stones to retain all the natural goodness of the wheatgerm. Its flour range includes traditional stoneground wholemeal, organic stoneground spelt, organic stoneground rye flour and organic stoneground malted blend flour.
Bacheldre Watermill has been awarded 3 x Gold, 1 x Silver and 2 x Commended True Taste Awards since the awards were set-up by the Welsh Assembly Government in 2002. The True Taste Awards were set up to recognise quality and excellence in Welsh food and drink.
