Martin Automatic nominated for Index award

Martin Automatic has been nominated for one of the EDANA INDEX 08 Awards, acknowledged as the highest accolade for excellence and innovation in the non woven supply chain. Martin Automatic’s MDR (Magnetic Driven Roller) technology has been selected in the category ‘Innovation in machinery of special relevance to the non wovens industry’.

Martin’s new MDR technology offers a solution for handling lightweight webs at lower tension levels and higher operating speeds. It can be applied to both web transport systems and to Martin’s line of high performance unwinds.

‘Today’s continued emphasis in converting and printing increasing throughput by raising process speeds,’ said Mike O’Hea, product manager for the MDR project. ‘At the same time, material basis weights and calipers continue to decrease. These lighter material structures can only run successfully at lower web tension levels, restricting the ability to reach higher speeds. These opposing trends of lower tensions and higher speeds present real challenges for splicing and web handling. We are pleased that the INDEX 08 Awards jury has recognized MDR as an effective new tool to overcome these challenges.’
