One of Ireland’s leading narrow web flexo converters, Multiprint Labels, has installed the new hybrid Gallus EM 410 S at its modern production facility in Swords, close to Dublin Airport. The latest 10-color UV-flexo machine, which complements an earlier Gallus EM 410 installed in 2001, means that the converter now has six presses supplied by the Swiss manufacturer.

Speaking for Multiprint, operations director Paul Young, explained: ‘Our mission statement requires us to supply quality technical labels and use investment and innovation to respond to market trends – we consider we can achieve this best with Gallus presses.’

The latest Gallus, which was commissioned in April 2006, will add around 40 per cent to Multiprint’s capacity when fully online, and allow the company to develop both its existing client base in the food, beverage, and personal care markets, as well as move into the area of pharmaceutical labels, for which the new servo-driven Gallus is ideally suited.

Currently, Multiprint exports some 80 per cent of its output, a figure Young is looking to reduce by utilizing the greater flexibility and improved output of the new machine, which he describes as ‘a significant step forward’. The new Gallus EM 410 S is an ideal partner for the earlier Gallus EM 410. ‘It has the same web width, and both are fitted with Rotascreen, hot foil, and full UV curing capability,’ he said.

Multiprint set off for Labelexpo in Brussels last year to sign up for another Gallus EM 410: ‘but we spotted the servo driven press giving a great demonstration on the booth, so quickly switched our order,’ explained Young, who sees the sleeve technology and servo drive of the hybrid press as a means to exploit the market for filmic substrates.

As part of Multiprint’s development program, it recently hosted a two-day seminar for the Irish Institute of Purchasing & Materials Management, at which the company, along with keynote guest speakers, presented new options for secure label production. Young sees this as part of the company’s commitment to its PS 9000 accreditation.  Other certificates held include BRC IOP (Hygiene), and ISO 9001/2000.
