BASF intros new plastic film for Luvitec

Chemicals company BASF has introduced a new plastic film designed to better protection for Luvitec high molecular weight powders from penetrating oxygen.

Luvitec is a trade name for polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), and is important in the production of specialty membranes and adhesives. PVP features in numerous BASF product lines, including Luvitec, where it is used in coatings and inks, adhesives, membranes and plastic fibres.

The new packaging film is made of ethylene vinyl alcohol plastics (EVOH) and, BASF said, gives excellent chemical resistance, very good tensile strength, and is impermeable to gases and fluids. This means all the relevant product properties remain protected, not just now but for years to come. BASF guarantees a shelf life of up to three years for high molecular weight powders.
