BST and Miyakoshi team up for accurate register control

At Labelexpo Europe, BST International’s AR4000 register control system was running on a Miyakoshi semi-rotary offset press.

The system adjusted register in the free-running, or intermittent, phase. This allows more accurate adjustment as a result of reading the register marks straight after the last printing unit. In turn, less misprinted paper and wasted material is produced. During tests in Japan prior to the show, the companies reported a waste reduction of between 45 and 73 percent when the AR4000 was used.

The AR4000 features control algorithms optimized for semi-rotary print processes. Its CCD color camera, with intelligent image processing algorithms and optimized flash illumination, ensure the reliable and stable identification of register marks in packaging and label materials. The system is easily retrofitted to existing machines thanks to its compact design, and does not require additional console components. Its modular architecture allows it to be readily extended to further control positions such as color register, cut-off register, and cutting tools, for example.
