Gyger has introduced the offline Primus Braille Printer for labels or folded boxes. Key features include a new hardware, intelligent software and reliable vision system at low investment cost, offering maximum flexibility and modularity for small to medium runs.

The printing systems reduce the number of production steps. The benefit of this reduced production time can be seen where several pharmaceutical products have the same outer packaging case for different countries. Through drop on demand technology, country-specific Braille can be added as a final step. No time is wasted for tool changeover; only an electronic text is required.

The Primus Braille Printer consists of a transport system, UV curing and 100 percent vision system and is equipped with a module unit which allows crosswise and lengthwise printing. It also contains a new printing unit for tactile danger warning symbols.

The KBA feeder accommodates frequent job changes. The system feed is versatile and supports defined formats and product thickness. The suction wheel feeds the sheets one by one onto printing area and the format is quick and easy to change from one job to another.

A Braille printing quality control system is integrated in order to minimize wastage. It allows reliable automatic quality control and verification of printed UV-varnish Braille letters.

The inspection system is based on a high resolution digital camera with a high power linear LED light source mounted on the Braille printing machines.

The printed area is scanned at high speed and composite images are automatically analyzed to detect the printed dot pattern and compare its contents to the required correct text. The Braille letters are reliably detected, regardless of background print colors and patterns.
