KBA launches modular web offset packaging press

The new KBA Varius 80 is a modular, variable-format web offset press using waterless technology and short-train inking units with UV drying to deliver high print quality on flexible, non-absorbent substrates. KBA says the machine has low start-up waste levels and its offset plates are significantly cheaper than those for flexo.

The keyless and waterless Varius 80 reaches full color after only 100 meters, which represents a saving of around 80 percent when compared with other presses, according to KBA. As runs become shorter and job changes more frequent, this advantage can make all the difference, and its offset quality answers the wishes of many print customers.

KBA says the environment benefits too, because the Varius 80 uses no water, no solvent and no powder. Designed for a maximum web width of 800 mm (31.5in) and a production speed of 400 meters per minute (1,312 feet/minute), the Varius 80 has a substrate capability of 30 to 800µm. Print length is variable between 21 and 34 inches, and changes in format length can be achieved in a matter of minutes with an automated plate and blanket cylinder change function – so no sleeves are involved.
