Klöckner Pentaplast launches ultra high barrier film

Klöckner Pentaplast’s Pentapharm film product line has been extended to include Aclar PA600/02 barrier films for pharmaceutical packaging applications. Pentapharm Aclar PA600/02 film is a two-layer (PVC/Aclar) laminated film that provides the highest moisture barrier available in the Pentapharm Aclar product line.

Pentapharm Aclar films are offered globally and manufactured throughout the worldwide network of Klöckner Pentaplast production facilities.

Pentapharm Aclar PA600/02 films are made with Honeywell’s 152-micron Aclar UltRx6000, which is 50 percent thicker than the current maximum gauge ACLAR films available in the marketplace today, for a reported 50 percent increase in moisture barrier.

Suited to solid oral-dose packaging, powders, ethical drugs, OTC, generics, physician samples, veterinary medicine, and nutraceuticals that require an ultra-high moisture barrier, Pentapharm Aclar PA600/02 films allow for small footprint packages, which require less material and total cost per package as compared to other packages in the non-polymer ultra-high barrier range. Pentapharm Aclar 600/02 films are transparent, non-yellowing, and said to offer excellent machinability on existing standard form/fill/seal packaging lines and tooling. With rigid vinyl as the product contact layer, Pentapharm Aclar 600/02 films offer sealability to common vinyl-compatible lidstocks.

‘Pentapharm Aclar 600/02 films were developed in response to customers’ needs for an ultra, ultra-high moisture barrier pharmaceutical film,’ said Charles Baechler, vice president, Pharma Business Unit, Klöckner Pentaplast Europe. ‘The expansion of our pharmaceutical film range to include this film, along with our existing Pentapharm films, continues to provide our customers with the broadest available selection of barrier films in the industry.’
