Lake Image Systems, a supplier of vision control and verification systems, will be showcasing the latest enhancement to IntegraVision at Labelexpo Europe 2009. IntegraVision Discovery incorporates print quality and barcode inspection features and is claimed by the company as the first inspection and verification system to provide this functionality for variable data. The new product is suitable for use on a range of hardware, from digital presses to narrow web lines.

In addition, Lake Image will be demonstrating a full label inspection system for ANSI/ISO barcode grading. The system will be integrated onto an Opal slitter rewinder from Ashe Converting and can provide 100 percent inspection of all barcodes printed.

IntegraVision Discovery includes ‘golden template’ matching to ensure print quality of all images printed on a web, comparing each image to an ideal reference image. The system uses high-resolution linescan camera technology to image 100 percent of the print produced, at speeds up to 1,000 feet per minute. In addition, it is able to detect print errors such as streaks and voids; out-of-position and out-of-alignment images; controlled document verification (as required when manufacturing pharmaceutical leaflets); and proof checking of documents prepared in languages such as Mandarin, Kanji, Hebrew, and Arabic. IntegraVision Discovery is capable of identifying defects as small as 0.04mm.

Using new functionality, printers can scan every barcode printed on a label web or rewinder during the print process to verify the barcode grade. If a low score is identified, typically below a C, the printer can address it immediately, therefore reducing waste and improving confidence in the quality of their print. The technology is also appropriate for other print applications such as in line variable data integrity for a wide variety of narrow web label, lottery and ticket inspection applications.

Lake Image Systems UK managing director Martin Keats, pictured, said: ‘As new digital print technologies combine variable data capabilities with high quality color processes, it is important that our IntegraVision platform can address the various inspections requirements. IntegraVision Discovery combines variable data integrity verification with barcode grading and full print quality inspection. This comprehensive functionality now enables our clients to implement common inspection technologies for all their cut sheet and continuous print and finishing processes.’
