Lake Image launches barcode grading inspection tool for IntegraVision

Lake Image Systems has developed a new toolset for IntegraVision which tackles the challenge of barcode grading to international standards, such as ISO/IEC15416:2000. The new toolset includes high resolution camera technology to capture large format images of key fields on a label or narrow web providing 100 percent quality and integrity assurance for both variable data and barcodes.

The application will be demonstrated on Lake Image Systems’ stand (4F 004) at Grafitec Convertec in Paris on June 9-12.

Using the new functionality, printers can scan every barcode printed on a label web or rewinder during the print process to verify the barcode grade. If a low score is identified, the printer can address it immediately, therefore reducing waste and improving confidence in the quality of their print. The technology is also appropriate for other print applications such as on line variable data integrity for a wide variety of narrow web label, lottery and ticket inspection applications.

‘Barcode printing standards are being driven forward in line with retailers’ demands for 100 percent scanning success at the point of sale,’ said Martin Keats, UK managing director of Lake Image Systems. ‘The pressure is on printers to deliver superb quality, as any label found scoring low runs the risk of rejection for an entire print run, and the possibility of cancelled print contracts.’

The technology is designed for use on narrow web and label presses, rewinders, litho and offset presses, and high-speed inkjet and digital printers. The toolset will be available for purchase or upgrade from July 2009.
