Lake Image Systems, a manufacturer of vision control and verification systems, has launched Label Inspector for the food packaging industry.

The Lake Image Label Inspector features in-line smart cameras that acquire images of every passing product on a production line, and inspects the images for label integrity. The system reads and verifies variable print data such as ‘use by’ dates, weights, and traceability codes, as well as machine readable barcodes and two-dimensional data matrix codes. The Lake Image Label Inspector ensures that the proper product labels are being applied, and checks for the presence and position of promotional stickers. Incorrectly labeled or coded products are identified and removed from the production line, thus reducing costs associated with waste and product returns.

Lake Image Systems’ vice president Pat Hoskins said: ‘Lake Image Systems Label Inspector has been a huge success in the UK, where it was introduced only a few months ago. Our clients there have reduced human error on food processing lines, and expensive product returns have been reduced accordingly. Food processors who must respond to labeling requirements which vary from retailer to retailer can be assured of compliance to a wide range of inspection and verification requirements. The system is easy to set up and operate, and immediately indicates printer problems, thus reducing waste and recycling costs.’
