Montalvo launches U4 web tension controller

The Montalvo Corporation, a manufacturer of industrial web control systems, has developed a new open loop web tension controller designed to increase productivity and profitability.

President Ed Montalvo said: ‘The U4 offers advanced features (typically found only in closed-loop control systems) such as soft start, anti-coast, taper tension, inertia compensation, and diameter alarms.’

The U4 is compatible with a variety of inputs and said to ensure accurate tension control from full roll to core. It does not require additional idler rollers, an important consideration especially in foil applications where rollers can introduce wrinkles.

Features include remote operation, ‘set it and forget it’ technology, unwind and rewind functionality, diameter display (in English or metric units), programmable diameter alarms, and easy installation right out of the box for a surface or flush mount. The U4 also allows users to save up to nine tension parameters for immediate recall to get a machine up and running quickly and eliminates variations in productivity from shift to shift.       

Part of Montalvo’s System 4000 next-generation components, it is compact, modular, and can be configured to provide options to any customer’s specific web tension control needs.
