Nilpeter unveils hologram technology at Labelexpo

At Labelexpo Europe, Nilpeter displayed a variety of multi-process technologies for producing pressure-sensitive labels and flexible packaging on various substrates. The company received orders for 21 presses during the event.
Nilpeter launched its HoloPrint technology for the production of holograms, which can be integrated in-line with any Nilpeter platform press.
The cassette-based HoloPrint module prints a 50,000 dpi holographic image in register and in a UV-cured varnish directly onto any web-fed paper or film substrate. The result is a security device that is said to overcome the usual storage and security issues surrounding conventional embossed foil holograms. HoloPrint images can help secure a multitude of consumer products, cards, tickets, and garments against counterfeiting or so-called ‘gray imports’. HoloPrint offers print widths of 340 mm (13.5 inches) and 420 mm (16.5 inches).
The HoloPrint module was shown as part of a six-color Nilpeter FA-Line UV flexo press. It also included the Caslon inkjet module. Introduced in 2007, it adds the flexibility of single-pass CMYK inkjet printing using UV-curable inks. Xaar’s 1001 drop-on-demand print heads allow eight grayscale levels. The FFEI front-end permits variable data printing on the fly, or for printing single copies of full-color labels to a maximum resolution of 720 x 360 dpi. The top speed is 25.3 m/minute (82 feet/minute) at a 360 x 360 dpi resolution. Caslon modules can run with one or more UV flexo units for printing UV-cured varnishes, solid colors, and/or white opaque inks for filmic labels. They can also run in a stand-alone mode with unwind and rewind units.
An MO-4 UV-combination press was also on display. It ran with four offset units and a UV flexo varnish unit. The MO-4 handles both long and short runs of labels and packaging products using freely configurable offset, flexo, hot/cold foil, rotary screen, gravure, and HoloPrint modules. The MO-4 has a web width of 420 mm (16.5 inches) and features a lightweight sleeve system for the plate and blanket cylinders running with an interchangeable servo-driven steel or rubber impression cylinder. Sleeves permit fast changeovers of repeat lengths in an 18-25 inches range, while reducing substrate waste.
An FB-3300 S ran with eight UV flexo units. It is the latest model in the company’s FB-Line of modular flexo presses. The newly-designed print units allow fast adjustments and rapid anilox roll changes, aided by servo-drives for the principle functions. FB-presses have a maximum web width of 420 mm (16.5 inches) and produce PSAs and flexible packaging at a top speed of 228 m/minute (750 ft/minute). The integral UV curing lamp units are fitted with water-cooled chill rollers to assist the converting of heat-sensitive materials. Options include screen process and hot foil modules.
Jakob Landberg, sales director, said: ‘Despite the global economic conditions we had a successful show that exceeded our expectations. Our patented HoloPrint system, which operates like an entirely new printing process, especially attracted great interest printing in-line with FA-Line and Caslon. The MO-4 offset press was also very popular. A new sleeve system cost-effectively offers printers a wide choice of repeat lengths. As high performance presses for premium products, the fourth generation of MO-presses is strategically very important to us. And again we outsold our selves with the FB-Line.’
